a&o opens its first property in Belgium

On 1 November, budget brand a&o celebrated its debut in Belgium with the opening of a&o Antwerpen Centraal! Following the launch of a&o Brighton Beach in August, this was the second new opening in just three months—and a&o’s 41st location in Europe. Located directly opposite Antwerp’s stunning Art Nouveau train station, the new hostel features 133 rooms with a total of 516 beds—perfect for solo travellers, families, and groups.

Guests can immerse themselves in the rich history and culture of Antwerp. The beautifully preserved historic city centre showcases architecture from the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, and the Art Nouveau era. Formerly the Century Hotel, the building is currently being converted and modernised to meet a&o’s high standards for comfort, style, and affordability.

a&o opens second property in the UK

The first a&o beach hostel opened its doors in the south of England in August 2024. The a&o Brighton Beach is located in the immediate vicinity of the beach and the pier, Brighton Pier. The a&o hostel in a prime location offers 50 rooms with a total of 186 beds, which can be booked immediately. During the winter months, modernisation measures are planned for the listed building, which until recently was run as a YHA youth hostel.

Oliver Winter, CEO: ‘Great architecture and very good accessibility in an exceptional location.’ The capital London and the various London airports are easily accessible by bus or train, so travelling to the beautiful coastal city is no problem and even a day trip to lively London with its many sights is possible.

a&o opens second hotel in the Netherlands

The budget specialists took over the Hotel Rotterdam City on 1 May – operations will continue seamlessly as the new a&o Rotterdam City. Gradual remodelling and renovation work should be completed by the end of 2022. With around 120 rooms, it will be the Berliners' second location in the Netherlands after Amsterdam. Oliver Winter, CEO: ‘We keep our word: Benelux is at the top of our wish list – now we have been able to secure a 100 per cent a&o location in Rotterdam.’ The lease runs for 20 years, plus two options to extend for a further five years each.

a&o opens its first hotel in the UK

The a&o Edinburgh City has been open since 1 July and demand has been high right from the start. The new location marks the Berlin-based budget chain's first presence in the UK. The new hotel has 131 rooms and around 610 beds. Future guests will benefit from the unique location right in the centre of the Scottish capital. Hardly any other place in the UK offers visitors such a wide variety of culture, history and architecture. In addition to the majestic Edinburgh Castle, which dominates the cityscape, Holyrood Palace and the Royal Mile, countless other attractions are just waiting to be discovered. Edinburgh is just the prelude to other a&o locations in the UK.

Since 2 October in modern "a&o: next generation" design

We opened our second a&o in Copenhagen in 2020. The new a&o is located in the up-and-coming Sydhavn district, close to the Central Station and with excellent transport connections. No matter if park, harbour or shopping facilities – everything can be reached quickly and easily. A total of 200 modern furnished rooms invite you to relax and feel good. As in every a&o there is a 24h service, as well as free Wi-Fi around the clock and throughout the house. So that nothing is missing, there is a laundry and guest kitchen and a bicycle rental. Also for the entertainment of the smaller travellers there is a children's corner.

The first a&o in Hungary will open in Budapest in 2020. 114 single, double, family and shared rooms with a total of 412 beds distributed over three floors provide comfortable and at the same time affordable accommodation for backpackers, couples, families or groups. Of course, this a&o also offers the standard 24-hour service, a snack bar open around the clock and free high-speed Wi-Fi. The children's corner also ensures the well-being of the children. From 2020 in the latest a&o design!

Our first a&o in Poland opened in 2020 in the capital Warsaw. 200 single, double, family and multi-bed rooms with a total of 650 beds offer a lot of comfort at the usual low price. Shopping, restaurants, cafés and bars, museums and the old town are only a stone's throw away. The hostel offers friendly service and snacks and drinks around the clock. Our Wi-Fi is fast and available free of charge throughout the hostel. Entertainment is provided with billiards and table football, and our play corner is a great place for our younger guests. Also: laundry and guest kitchen, co-working space and parking spaces.
